There are 3 stages of Salvation.
When one is saved, there are 3 journeys to it:
1. Justification
Justification is the act of God declaring a sinner to be righteous and forgiving them typically through faith, rather than through their own good works. Scripture shows us that when one is saved, that person is justified, meaning they are brought into right standing before God.
The Bible says ; Romans 5:1
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
We are not justified by the good works we do. As tangible as our works may be, they cannot save a person and if they could, there would be no point to the death and resurrection of Jesus.
The problem with being justified by works is that it leaves room for us to measure how well or poorly we have performed making salvation a matter of human scorekeeping rather than divine grace and also we can measure how much good or bad we have done and it makes salvation uncertain.
2. Sanctification
Sanctification is the ongoing process by which God makes believers more holy and Christlike. It is a journey toward the perfection of being like Jesus Christ. In this sense, while our spirit is saved at the point of conversion, our hearts and minds still require a process of regeneration and renewal.
The more time we spend with someone, the more we naturally begin to think and behave like them sometimes even without realising it. The same principle applies to sanctification. The closer we walk with Christ, the more we are shaped into His likeness.
3. Glorification
Romans 8:30 ; “Whom He justified, them He also glorified.”
Glorification is the future completion of salvation the moment when believers are perfectly transformed and brought to fully share in Christ’s glory. It is the day we shed these mortal bodies and put on our heavenly ones.
That is the day we finally leave the very presence of sin behind.
Summary
So in brief Justification saves us from the penalty of sin; Sanctification saves us from the power of sin; and Glorification saves us from the presence of sin.
